Champagne De Saint-Gall is one of the most important producers in Champagne, even though the name is less well known than some of the great houses from Reims or Épernay. It is not run by a single family, but is a consortium of numerous winegrowers from the region’s finest vineyards. The brand is the flagship of the Union Champagne cooperative, which processes grapes from several hundred wine-growing estates and thus has access to some of Champagne’s most renowned Grand Cru terroirs. Its history dates back to 1966, when several cooperatives joined forces to market their top vineyards collectively. Today, Union Champagne brings together winegrowers from the most famous Grand Cru communes of the Côte des Blancs – including Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Cramant, Oger and Chouilly – as well as from the Montagne de Reims, such as Ambonnay, Bouzy, Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay and Verzy. This exceptional provenance forms the foundation of De Saint-Gall champagnes.

At the heart of the wines is the Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. It lends the wines elegance, chalky notes and a delicate salty minerality. This is complemented by Pinot Noir from the Grand Crus of the Montagne de Reims, which contributes structure, depth and red fruit. The house vinifies each terroir separately to preserve the character of the individual crus before the final cuvées are blended. De Saint-Gall’s philosophy combines cooperative collaboration with the highest standards of quality. Thanks to close relationships with the winegrowers, a rigorous selection process can take place right in the vineyard. The base wines are matured under temperature-controlled conditions, predominantly in stainless-steel tanks, to preserve freshness and the expression of the terroir. The champagnes are then aged on the lees for significantly longer than the statutory minimum requirements. This lends them additional complexity and a fine, creamy perlage. Stylistically, De Saint-Gall’s champagnes are characterised by precision and clarity. The Blanc de Blancs cuvées impress with aromas of citrus fruits, white peach, green apples, acacia blossom and brioche, as well as a distinctive chalky minerality. The cuvées with a higher proportion of Pinot Noir display greater vigour, yellow fruit and subtle spicy notes, without losing their elegant character. Common to all the wines is a lively acidity, a fine effervescence and a remarkable balance between fruit, freshness and mature aromas. Champagne De Saint-Gall is undoubtedly one of the leading producers of high-quality cooperative champagnes, boasting an exceptionally high number of Grand Cru plots and offering excellent value for money.
