Family Perrin winery
The Family Perrin is one of the most influential and versatile wine families in France today. On the one hand, the name Perrin is inextricably linked with the legendary Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and on the other with wines such as Miraval and La Vieille Ferme.
In fact, Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which has been in the family since the beginning of the 20th century and is one of France's great classic wine estates, forms the basis of the fame and opportunities that the family has enjoyed since that time. Over the decades, Beaucastel has become the stylistic reference for traditional Rhône wines: complex, spicy, long-lasting and characterised by an exceptionally high proportion of Mourvèdre. At the same time, the family was one of the early pioneers of organic and later biodynamic viticulture in the region.
Starting from Beaucastel, a widely ramified family business developed over the decades, which today encompasses numerous wine estates, brands and co-operations. In addition to the historic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, these include important vineyards and projects in Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Vinsobres, Cairanne and Ventoux. The La Vieille Ferme brand, which has been the popular face of the family since the 1970s, has also become particularly well known and has enjoyed enormous success worldwide as a bistro and everyday wine. With its accessible Rhône wines, it reached a large audience far beyond the classic fine wine scene and made a decisive contribution to strengthening the international reputation of the southern Rhône valley, Provence and Ventoux. Today, many millions of bottles are produced annually.
There are also numerous other participations and partnerships. The Californian project Tablas Creek Vineyard, which the Perrins founded together with the Haas family, became internationally recognised. They recognised the potential of Paso Robles for Rhône grape varieties back in the late 1980s and even exported grape material from Beaucastel to California. Today, the winery is considered one of the most important Rhône-inspired projects in the USA. Equally prominent is the collaboration with Château Miraval, which was established together with Brad Pitt and contributed significantly to the worldwide boom in high-quality Provence rosés. The family is also involved in the hospitality sector, for example with the Michelin-awarded restaurant and hotel L'Oustalet in Gigondas.
Several generations work together in the company, but the stylistic line remains clearly recognisable: a focus on origin, organic farming wherever possible, vinification that is as transparent as possible and a classic Rhône style that values freshness and structure over mere opulence. This is precisely why the family's top wines - above all "Beaucastel" and "Hommage à Jacques Perrin" - are highly regarded around the world. The "Hommage" has long been one of France's iconic wines and is one of the few great Rhône wines that are regularly traded on the Place de Bordeaux.
In recent years, the Perrin family has increasingly invested in new projects and modern infrastructure. This includes the new, ultra-modern cellar and sustainability project around Beaucastel, which uses natural building materials, rainwater storage and innovative cooling and energy concepts and was designed to be one of the most sustainable wineries in Europe. All of this together makes this family unique. In addition to some rare wines under the label "Family Perrin - Les Crus" and "La Family Perrin - Sélections Parcellaires", it offers wines of great quality at an outstandingly good price.
