Wess Winery

"Not the biggest but the best."

Wine comes from experience. And so at Rainer Wess in Kremstal on the Danube, the time of harvest is determined "not by sugar, acidity and pH values, but by tasting and observing the grapes and vines."

Wess gained a great deal of experience and international wine expertise in the Bordelais, among other places, before realising a dream in 2003 and founding his own winery with a focus on Veltliner and Riesling.

Initially, production took place in a rented cellar with purchased grapes. in 2010, they moved to their current location. Today, the team around Rainer, daughter Christina and son-in-law David cultivates 15 hectares of vineyards with the goal: "to bottle the sites as unadulterated, unaffected and pure as possible."

Another aspect of Wess' wine philosophy is sustainability, "especially 'letting go' and accepting natural imperfection." Consequently, no herbicides, insecticides or copper-reduced pesticides are used. The Rainer Wess winery is a member of the Verein Traditionsweingüter Österreich.
