Clemens Busch Winery
In Pünderich, where the Moselle pushes through a narrow bend and the slopes drop steeply to the river, is the Clemens Busch vineyard, run by its namesake, partner Rita and son Johannes.
The "Raffes", a Riesling from the vineyard of the same name in the Marienburger Fahrlay, is a wine that should ideally be given ten years before it is opened. This unofficial Auslese from vines that are more than 70 years old and largely unrooted possesses immense power, which should first be integrated into the wine. This has now happened and the "Raffes" presents itself as a spicy, mineral monolith that simultaneously displays finesse and noblesse. ROBERT PARKER and JAMES SUCKLING both gave the Riesling 95 points on release. We would give this miracle of dimensions more today.
