South Australia - Coonawarra, Australia, Rotwein, Cabernet Sauvignon 0.75 l
While the classic wines from Penfolds are usually so-called multi-regional blends, meaning that their fruit comes from different growing regions, this Cabernet comes exclusively from Coonawarra. This appellation is famous for its iron-rich terra rossa soils, in which Cabernet Sauvignons such as the 2019 "BIN 169" become great wines with outstanding ageing potential. Matured for 17 months in 56% new French oak barrels, the Cabernet Sauvignon is sublime and focussed with enormous density. It is a wine that is elegant, but currently has a very muscular tannin and a pressing acidity. Both will integrate over the next few years. This great wine, which has received up to 98 points, needs time. After all, it comes from Coonawarra!
The place of origin and "spiritual home" of the Penfolds Winery is the Magill Estate, just a few minutes from Adelaide. in 1844, Christopher and Mary Jenfeld planted vine cuttings that they had taken with them on their trip to Australia.
