Penfolds Grange 2009

The 2009 "Grange" is a fabulous wine. Although it still has potential for many years, it can also be drunk now with great pleasure. The fruit of 98 % Shiraz and 2 % Cabernet Sauvignon comes 84 % from the Barossa Valley and 8 % from McLaren Vale, with a pinch of Clare Valley and Magill Estate. It is a deep, opulent and sensual "Grange" with ripe, sweet fruit and equally sweet, fine-grained tannins. The flavours of ripe cherries, plums and cassis appear very pure and are underlaid with some smoked meat, olive tapenade and cedar. With its fine sweetness, this is an excellent accompaniment to a good cigar!
