"Winemaking is always a generational contract." The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been making wine in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, for around 350 years and 15 generations. The winery has been certified organic since 1990.

Wittmann's calling cards are the estate wines, also known as the "estate line". The organically produced Riesling from the estate's own vineyards in Westhofen is actually a local wine, while the official local wine is actually a Riesling from the Erste Lagen vineyards. So this purist, salty, citrusy and yellow-fruity wine, whose acidity and tension reflect the limestone soils, is already top class. This is the highest level in this price category - matured partly in stainless steel and partly in large barrels.
