Mitolo Wines
The story of Mitolo is that of Frank Mitolo, who originally comes from a family of winegrowers in Abruzzo, but was himself the largest potato producer in the southern hemisphere. Until he decided to make wine in 1999.
The great 2018 vintage is also a source of great joy for Frank Mitolo and his winemaker Ben Glaetzer. Great wines such as the super-premium Shiraz called "Savitar" have been created here. The fruit comes from old vines in McLarenVale, more precisely from the Whites Valley with cooling sea breezes from the Gulf of St Vincent. After a cool fermentation, the wine was matured for 20 months in hogsheads made from 85% new French oak, 5% new American oak and 10% older French oak. It smells fleshy and smoky with liquorice and juicy red and dark fruit. The wine is opulent, with plenty of spice but also firm acidity and savoury tannins.
