There are loud examples among the Grosse Gewächse. Wines that talk about themselves like barkers even before the first sip. And there are those like the Felseneck. It speaks of its terroir - a very special mix of blue slate, basalt scree and quartzite - in a delicate, reserved and yet decidedly calm voice. The 2022 vintage is no exception: true greatness in an incredibly restrained and elegant way. Sophisticated is what they would call it in the UK. A uniquely concentrated mix of minerality, spice, extract and highly elegant fruit - certainly one of the best Grosse Gewächse of the year. A monument with a great future. We do not recommend any culinary accompaniment - instead, we recommend peace, contemplation and plenty of time. Nothing less than an experience.

The Schäfer-Fröhlich family winery in Bockenau on the Nahe has been in existence for around 200 years. Today it is run by Tim Fröhlich and his wife Nicole. But the parents Karin and Hans-Dieter Fröhlich already brought the winery forward with the acquisition of outstanding vineyards and the production of distinctive Rieslings.
