The 2011 "Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial? is a blend of 84% Tempranillo and 16% Mazuelo (Cariñena) from a parcel named La Plana, planted in 1950 at 485 meters, the highest site of the Ygay estate. The wine was aged 28 months in French barriques (Mazuelo) and American barrels (Tempranillo). A classic Rioja with notes of cherries, blackberries, blackcurrants, and raisins, plus hints of smoke, cinnamon, coconut, and vanilla. On the palate, it is lively, powerful, and concentrated, with firm tannins, full fruit, and a magnificent length.

Marques de Murrieta

The beginning of the Marqués de Murrieta winery near Logroño is also the origin of the Rioja growing region. In 1852, it was Don Luciano Murrieta who produced the first Rioja here using the techniques he had learned in Bordeaux. This first vintage was exported to Mexico and Cuba. Since 1983, the winery has been run by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family.
