When a winery produces a single-varietal Merlot with top-class aspirations, a comparison with the legendary Chateau Petrus is almost inevitable. The Redigaffi from Tua Rita does not need to shy away from this comparison. Strict selection combined with one and a half years of ageing in 100 per cent new barriques create a wine that is deeply impressive. Enormous density and richness, intensely seductive fruit, highly complex flavour. In addition, a velvety, sumptuous coat of remarkably soft tannins. A never-ending firework of blackberries, cherries, vanilla, cedar wood, olive liquorice and occasionally mint on the palate. Merlot can perhaps be vinified differently - but certainly not better. A wine icon with a great future, which James Suckling awarded 99 points.
