Tenuta dell'Ornellaia
The Tuscan winery Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori and in between partly owned by Robert Mondavi. Today it belongs to the wine empire of the Frescobaldi family.
2015 was a very changeable year. Late frost after bud break almost caused major damage, but the vines survived largely unscathed. This was followed by a warm spring and a hot summer with a long dry spell. Then, at the end of August, came rain, heat, rain again and drought in quick succession. And yet, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot produced the seductive Tuscan Bordeaux blend that has made Ornellaia famous. Cassis and black cherries, some liquorice, dark chocolate and cedar wood, balsamic notes and finely polished tannins form a harmonious whole that has no need to shy away from any comparison in terms of quality.
