When the Clüver family settled in Elgin in 1896, nobody was thinking about winegrowing. It was mainly apples with which they became successful. But exactly a century later, the Clüvers set up their own winery.
Paul Clüver Estate Chardonnay 2022
Paul Clüver was one of the pioneers of Chardonnay from South Africa's cool climate regions. As early as 1987, he planted the first vines in Elgin Valley, where previously there had only been apple trees. His Chardonnay comes from various vineyards planted between 1987 and 2017. It was fermented and aged in French barrels with 33% new wood. The Chardonnay offers a wonderful range of flavours, from lemon, orange and mandarin to winter melon and pear. There are also hints of toasted bread and almonds. On the palate, it is fresh, juicy and salty with a touch of the finest vanilla.
