Winery Wittmann Aulerde GG Riesling 2024

Clay, loess loam and limestone form the topsoil in the heart of the south-facing Westhofener Aulerde vineyard, beneath which lies gravelly clay-sand. It is here that the approximately 70-year-old, biodynamically cultivated vines stand, forming the basis of Philipp Wittmann's interpretation of the very special Aulerde terroir. It always ripens slightly earlier than the other three Westhofener GGs – in 2024, it benefits particularly from the not-too-hot year. No exuberant fruit basket, but rather a taut, cool elegance. In character, it is clearly more Catherine Deneuve than Brigitte Bardot. Stuart Pigott particularly praises the successful blend of cooler and warmer aromatic components.
