Penfolds Champagne Cuvée Brut
A champagne from Australia? Anyone familiar with the rigour with which the Champagne Producers' Association prosecutes the misuse of the "Champagne' appellation will be surprised. But in this case, everything is above board. For this Penfolds does not come from "Down Under', but is the result of a collaboration with the Thiénot champagne house, founded in 1985. The cuvée is based on a careful selection of renowned vineyards and consists of 45% Pinot Noir, 35% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. The result is entirely in the Penfolds style: fruity, uncomplicated, yet with plenty of structure and class. Apple, citrus, brioche and almond dominate the aromas; French savoir-vivre meets the nonchalance of Down Under.
