Of the three great Cabernet Francs from the legendary Loire estate Clos Rougeard, "Le Bourg? is the primus inter pares. Planted in 1948 (!) on a thin layer of clay and loam over solid clay-limestone in the heart of Chacé, this vineyard produces full-bodied, fruity, and meaty Cabernets brimming with unbridled power. This is also true of the 2020 vintage, characterized by perfect physiological ripeness: the glass is filled with abundant red fruit (cherry, raspberry), accompanied by firm tannins and a complex spiciness. Not to mention, of course, the irresistible, smoky minerality that lends these Cabernet Francs their magic and makes them so distinctive.
