The Hirtzberger family has been producing wines in Spitz in the Wachau for five generations. The Grand Cru from the Singerriedel, Hochrain and Honigvogl vineyards are among the best that Austrian viticulture has to offer.

Spitz an der Donau, in the very west of the Wachau, where the valley narrows and becomes cooler: this is where the Franz Hirtzberger winery has stood for generations. An ancestor of the current estate manager was one of the founders of Vinea Wachau, the association which, with the Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd classifications, established the system that still governs the region today. The Rotes Tor is the estate's Federspiel and blends grapes from several Spitz vineyards on weathered primary rock with a layer of loess. The cool 2025 vintage suited this style perfectly: white apple fruit and delicate herbal notes, accompanied by orange zest; on the palate, it is juicy with a lemony finish.
