Luddite Chenin Blanc Südafrika - Walkerbay 2025
The Chenin parcel in Bot River is Penny Verburg's domain, and Niels, by his own account, has no business in it. The Chenin Blanc is the smallest bottling of the house, with just 2,540 bottles filled from the 2025. The grapes spent 24 days on the skins, two fermenters even 30 days, followed by ageing in seasoned wood. The result is a silky structure with a fine tannic grip. The nose shows cut apple, quince and a hint of cassis, the palate cool juiciness, tight focus and that typical Luddite salinity on the finish. At around 11 % alcohol it stays light on its feet and keeps revealing new nuances with air.
