Opus One Overture 2023

Overture is made in the Opus One cellar, from the organically farmed estate vineyards in Oakville. Since 1993 the team around Michael Silacci has assembled the blend from those blocks whose aroma and texture suit the style. From the 2021 vintage on it carries a year and draws more closely on individual blocks. The summer of 2023 stayed cool, with harvest running from 14 September to 16 October. 22 days on the skins, 19 months in French oak. The nose is open and fragrant, blueberry and cassis, with violet, cedar and a touch of caramel. Silky on the palate, with cool red fruit, fine-grained tannin and a long finish. The young oak stays discreetly woven in. A classic vintage that we see hitting its stride in two to three years and holding well beyond that.
