Penfolds Yattarna Chardonnay 2024
For us, Yattarna ranks among the most ambitious white wine projects Australia has produced. 144 trial wines were made at Penfolds before the first vintage was released in 1998, hence the designation Bin 144. The name comes from an Aboriginal language and means little by little. The fruit grows in Tumbarumba, the Adelaide Hills and Tasmania, three cool regions with long ripening periods. Eight months in French barriques, 56 % of them new. On the nose flint and wet stone, oyster shell, sea spray, then nougat, roasted macadamia, brioche and struck match. On the palate real drive, salty length, fine lemon curd and an iron-like mineral grip. Erin Larkin awarded 98 points in the Wine Advocate.
