Niepoort Redoma Tinto Douro DOC 2022
Niepoort has been in family hands since 1842. Since the early nineties, Dirk Niepoort has used Redoma to show what the Douro can do beyond Port. The fruit comes from parcels over 70 years old at Quinta de Nápoles in the Vale do Tedo, north-facing schist between 150 and 500 metres. Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão grow there in an old field blend. Fermentation runs with plenty of whole bunches in a granite lagar, foot-trodden, and the wine then rests exclusively in old, large wooden vats. 2022 was hot and dry, and that concentration shows in the glass. Dark cherry and blackberry meet balsamic herbs, pepper and a stony, saline streak. The palate is wild and dense, the tannins firm and well integrated, the finish long.
