Niepoort Colheita Demijohn 1,5 L 2003

Since 1842 the Niepoort reserves have rested in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. In the late 19th century the family bought around 4,000 glass demijohns from a glassworks in Oldenburg, and the legendary Garrafeiras still mature in them today. The 1.5-litre bottle takes its shape from those demijohns. The grapes come from low-yielding vineyards in the Cima Corgo, foot-trodden in the lagares of Vale de Mendiz. Then twenty years in 550-litre pipas, first bottling in April 2023. Brick red with an orange rim, the nose offers cherry, apricot, orange peel, caramel and spice over gentle smoke.
