Hardly anyone has shaped the recent history of the Tuscan coast as much as Lodovico Antinori.
In the 1980s, he founded Ornellaia and, with Masseto, created two wines that are now among Italy’s greatest names.
Tenuta di Biserno Campo di Sasso Antinori Insoglio del Cinghiale 2024
The first Insoglio del Cinghiale left Tenuta Campo di Sasso in 2003. The name points to the hollow where wild boar wallow, fitting for the rough Alta Maremma. The vines grow on clay and Bolgheri conglomerate, the warmer sandy plots going to Syrah. Syrah leads the blend, backed by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. After fermentation it spends six months partly in steel, partly in wood. The cool autumn of 2024 kept the freshness. We smell violets, forest berries, black pepper, myrtle and rosemary from the "macchia?. The palate is juicy and medium-bodied, the tannins polished, the finish long.
