Blauer Zweigelt is a rarity along the Saale and Unstrut rivers, but at Böhme & Töchter, this variety comes across as exceptionally harmonious. The 2023 VDP.Ortswein evokes cherries, blackberries, and elderberries, along with violets, herbs, and a subtle peppery spice. On the palate, the wine remains cool, juicy, and precise, with noticeable yet refined tannins and lively acidity. At 12.5% ABV, it doesn't feel heavy at all, but rather elegant and invigorating. The finish brings back notes of cherry, pepper, and a slightly tart, stony note. A red wine full of character that is especially enjoyable when served slightly chilled.
