Domaine Alex Moreau is situated in the heart of the legendary Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, where Alex Moreau’s most famous wines are produced. The estate was founded in 1809 by his ancestor, Auguste Moreau. Until the 1930s, the family owned only a few vineyards. It was Marcel Moreau who significantly expanded the estate, thereby laying the foundations for the success of his son Bernard, who took over the estate in the 1960s at the age of just 14. He made the estate world-famous with his style, and Alex is continuing this tradition. The wines are refined and elegant, round and creamy.
After Bernard’s sons had gained experience in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and France, they initially took over the domaine together, with Benôit focusing more on the vineyards and Alexandre on the cellar. In 2021, they went their separate ways and divided the estate between them. Today, Alexandre works alongside his wife Martine and cultivates 5.5 hectares without the use of pesticides or herbicides. All wines are aged in wooden barrels; the white wines are aged on the lees, without stirring or pumping over. The red wines are fermented partly with and partly without yeast. The village wines are aged in new oak for a maximum of 25 per cent, the 1er Cru wines for 30 to 50 per cent, and the Grand Cru wines for 100 per cent.
