Albrecht Schwegler Winery

"Even today, we free ourselves from trends and fashions."

Albrecht Schwegler

The family winery Albrecht Schwegler, founded in 1990, is located in Korb, Baden-Württemberg, in the Rems Valley. Even then, the senior was considered a "tinkerer and wine pioneer", known for "distinctive red cuvées that had not existed in Germany until then." This tradition is also continued today by the next generation, Aaron and Julia Schwelger.

In the vineyard, they work ecologically, with organic fertiliser, "species-rich seeding and a lot of manual labour." In the cellar, too, there is a consistent closeness to nature: for the most part, the wines are matured in wood and bottled untreated and unadulterated, with minimal sulphurisation after long barrel maturation.

"More than the sum of the parts" is the motto according to which a whole round of exciting red wine cuvées is created from the diversity of the terroir. The Beryll, for example, is made up of 13 plots, in four locations, of Zweigelt, Cabernet Franc, Lemberger, Cabertin and Merlot.

In addition, since 2009 there are also white wines, Riesling and Chardonnay. The white wines mature for up to 12 months, red wines for up to 24 months in barrels. The wooden barrel storage includes barriques and tonneaux (500 l), which are exclusively sourced from France. Depending on the vintage, grape variety and single vineyard, new wood of various toasting grades is used, as well as one-year-old and two-year-old barrels.
