Clemens Busch Winery
In Pünderich, where the Moselle pushes through a narrow bend and the slopes drop steeply to the river, is the Clemens Busch vineyard, run by its namesake, partner Rita and son Johannes.
It is - surprise, surprise? - a fascinating wine that Clemens Busch, the Grand Master of Pünderich's Marienburg, has produced here. The "Raffes", a more or less dry, unofficial Auslese from a particularly stony, high-altitude part of the Marienburg Fahrlay, is a wine full of intensity and refinement. The Riesling from largely ungrafted vines that are more than 70 years old is dense and complex and yet it has something floating and weightless about it. Acidity and, above all, minerality create vibration, energy and tension. There is also a firm tannin component and a fine, creamy texture in this grandiose wine, which was awarded 97 PARKER points.
