South Australia - Coonawarra, Australia, Rotwein, Cabernet Sauvignon 0.75 l
Full speed ahead! The 2016 "Penfolds BIN 169" is slowly showing the full potential that Cabernet Sauvignon from the Terra Rossa soils in Coonawarra is capable of achieving! The wine, rated 97 points each by ROBERT PARKER and JAMES SUCKLING, shows an exuberant fruit of red berries, cherry coke, vanilla, wood, mocha and tobacco, cassis and smoke. The wood is still very present on the palate, which is not surprising as the wine was made for decades of development. But it is already very clear, focussed and sensual. Incidentally, this wine is a real rarity. The 2016 is only the sixth vintage since 1973!
The place of origin and "spiritual home" of the Penfolds Winery is the Magill Estate, just a few minutes from Adelaide. in 1844, Christopher and Mary Jenfeld planted vine cuttings that they had taken with them on their trip to Australia.
