The 2018 Riserva showcases the ambitious and profound side of the Zeni estate. Compared to the classic Amarone, this wine appears even more complex, concentrated and, at the same time, more finely balanced. The longer ageing period brings additional depth and more tertiary aromas to the fore. Alongside dark cherry fruit and preserved plums, notes of tobacco, cocoa, leather, spices and balsamic herbs come to the fore. Despite the opulent Amarone style, the wine remains remarkably controlled and structured. This is precisely where the strength of this wine lies: it relies less on sheer power than on calm, length and aromatic complexity. The 2018 vintage brought slightly cooler conditions to Valpolicella than 2019, resulting in many wines displaying a finer acidity structure and more classic elegance.
