The Ried Ulm on the eastern side of the Nussberg is one of Vienna's great terroirs. The steep south-facing slope above the Danube is characterised by extremely chalk-rich Muschelkalk and solid limestone – the remains of a Tertiary coral reef. Nine grape varieties grow here together, including Pinot Blanc, Neuburger, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Rotgipfler and Zierfandler, cultivated biodynamically since 2008. After a short maceration period, 75 per cent is fermented in stainless steel and 25 per cent in large, used oak barrels. The 2024 vintage showcases the cool, salty side of the Nussberg: citrus, pome fruit, herbs and subtle exotic notes meet a chalky, taut minerality and smoky undertones. A profound "Gemischter Satz' with tremendous drive, on a par with a Grand Cru!
