Weingut Josef Milz Weisser Burgunder Magna Charta 2024

The Milz family has run its estate in Trittenheim since 1520, unbroken, now in the 22nd generation. For the Magna Charta house selection, Markus Milz and Sebastian Schmidtke found a reference to barrique ageing in the estate's old cellar books. Only a small part of the Pinot Blanc goes into magnum, for a good reason: in 1.5 litres, wine matures more slowly and more evenly. That is exactly what this wine wants. In the glass Williams pear and quince, hazelnut, a touch of vanilla, and the salty pull of Middle Mosel slate. On the palate compact and creamy, taut and long in the spicy finish, with more calm and more depth in magnum. We are laying ours down for the next ten years.
