Philipponnat Cuvée 1522 Extra Brut Rosé 2018
Champagne Philipponnat
The 2018 "Cuvée 1522 Rosé? showcases Philipponnat's powerful yet precise side. It is based on 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, including 7.5% Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ that was vinified as a red wine. On the nose, grapefruit, blood orange, pomegranate, and strawberry blend with white pepper and subtle spice. On the palate, the rosé is expansive, wine-like, and structured, yet remains taut and fresh. Eight years of aging on the lees provide depth, while the low dosage of 4.25 g/l keeps the wine crisp and focused. The long finish features notes of chalk, salt, and a subtle tart, spicy note. Antonio Galloni awards it 94 points on Vinous and comments: "Another superb wine in Philipponnat's 1522 series.?
