Château des Quarts

"A unique vineyard in Pouilly-Fuissé"

Buy wines from Château des Quarts

It all began in 2003, when Maconnais winemaker Olivier Merlin had the opportunity to buy grapes from the Clos de Quarts. In 2012, he had the chance to acquire the vineyard and convinced none other than Dominique Lafon to tackle the project together.

The Château des Quarts wine estate, named after the beautiful property on the edge of the Clos des Quarts vineyard, was in fact only founded in 2012.

However, the Clos of the same name is much older and is still partly planted with Chardonnay vines dating back to 1917. It overlooks the Saône valley and is protected by a high stone wall, which gives it a monopoly position. It is located in the village of Chaintré, the southernmost village in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation.

The total area of the Clos des Quarts today is 2 hectares and 65 ares. In addition to the „Clos de Quarts“ 1er Cru, there are also the wines „Aux Quarts“ and „L'Orangerie“ from Pouilly Fuissé. The cultivation is organic, although not yet certified, the grapes are pressed whole and the juice is fermented spontaneously. The wine is matured in stainless steel barrels with a maximum of 10% of new barrels.
