Weingut Leon Gold from Remstal in Württemberg belongs to the young generation of German wineries that have redefined their region in terms of style and quality in recent years. Leon Gold founded the winery in 2013 in Gundelsbach, in the Rems Valley in Württemberg, after completing his training and working in organic and biodynamic wineries, and now cultivates 18 hectares, certified according to the Demeter standard.
Leon Gold interprets the Rems Valley and its traditional and immigrant grape varieties in his own style. In addition to Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Cabernet and Chardonnay, Trollinger, Muskattrollinger, Lemberger and Schwarzriesling also play an important role. The wines are often surprisingly cool, clear and juicy, characterised by limestone, Keuper and Gipskeuper soils and a restrained use of wood. The red wines in particular combine flavour and drinkability with an almost Burgundian finesse.
In the German wine scene, Leon Gold has long been recognised as one of Württemberg's most important winegrowers. This is not only due to the quality of the wines, but also to the attitude behind them: less volume, more precision, origin and balance. The winery thus exemplifies the profound change that Württemberg is currently undergoing - away from being an underestimated volume region of co-operatives and branded wines to a region with an independent profile and growing international reputation.
With "Lunar herbs" and "Lunars herbs rosé", Leon Gold has now created two excellent non-alcoholic drinks. These are not slightly de-alcoholised wines, but fine compositions of grape juice, herbs and lemon with a little carbonation.
