20 kilometres southeast of Portland is the Gran Moraine Winery, part of Jackson Family Wines, or more precisely: on the western edge of Oregon's Yamhill-Carlton AVA (American Viticultural Area). High-quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive in one of the top US growing regions.
Above all, the wine philosophy at Gran Moraine can be described as unconventional, confident and experimental. "A tour of the winery reveals ten cases of Pet Nat in one corner that will never be released, sparkling wines with extended tirage destined for various late disgorgement dates, and a clay amphora with colourful hand-painted symbols."
