Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz Gift box 2013
The 2013 Shiraz "St Henri" is the second grandiose, indulgent vintage after 2012, in which twice as much Cabernet was used in the cuvée as in the previous year, namely 4%. The rest is Shiraz from McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Padthaway and Port Lincoln. What characterises this wine and distinguishes it from the "Grange" is the fact that it is matured in large barrels that are more than 50 years old. It is the classic, timeless Shiraz, with notes of Black Forest cherry and crème de cerise, blueberries, some cassis and mulberries mingling with peat, liquorice, some tar and smoked meat in 2013. On the palate, the wine is just as impressive as it is on the nose. It combines opulence and richness with elegance and finesse. ROBERT PARKER gives it 97 points.
