Winery Bastgen Kestener Paulinshofberg GG Riesling 2019
The Paulinshofberg is an old historic top site that is slowly coming back into the focus of Riesling fans. In addition to great residual sweet Rieslings, dry Grosses Gewächse are increasingly responsible for this. Oliver Haag vinified his first Großes Gewächs from the site in 2019 and the certified organic Bastgen winery also produced a wine here in the same year that more than fulfils the requirements of a "Großes Gewächs'. The Riesling offers a highly aromatic, spicy nose of peach and herbs, a hint of raisins and a subtle smoky note. On the palate, it is impressively dense and present, with a juicy finish characterised by deep, salty minerality. Now at the beginning of its ageing phase and with potential for at least another decade.
