Wittmann Winery
"Winemaking is always a generational contract." The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been making wine in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, for around 350 years and 15 generations. The winery has been certified organic since 1990.
Before the wines in the 2018 to 2020 vintages became somewhat riper and more opulent, there was another "cool-climate Morstein" in 2017 with a reductive, flinty note, lots of citrus, herbs, salt and juicy fruit. This is Chablis in Rheinhessen with high minerality, mouthwatering acidity and crystalline purity. The "Morstein", Wittmann's flagship wine, has become a great 2017. Philipp Wittmann filled just a third of the normal quantity and meticulously sorted out the grapes to achieve this quality. It was worth it. ROBERT PARKER awarded it 95 points, JAMES SUCKLING 98 and JANCIS ROBINSON 18.5/20.
