Winery Wittmann
"Winemaking is
always a generational contract."
Günther Wittmann

The Wittmanns and their ancestors have been growing grapes in Westhofen in Rheinhessen for around 350 years and 15 generations. The winery has been certified organic since 1990.
Since 2004, it has even been working biodynamically, i.e. according to even stricter guidelines. Self-composted fertiliser is used to activate the soil. The grapes are harvested carefully and gently by hand.
Günther, Elisabeth, Eva Clüserath and Philipp Wittmann are committed to particularly sustainable and natural vinification and thus strive for the "balance of wine".
Perfect conditions for ageing and storage are also provided by the vaulted cellar dating from 1829, whose 80 wooden barrels each contain the harvest from one parcel.
The Wittmann Rieslings thrive on the top Westhofen vineyards such as Aulerde, Brunnenhäuschen, Kirchspiel and Morstein. On the gently sloping hillsides, almost 70-year-old vines take root on heavy clay marl with a small amount of loess loam and limestone.
