Winery Fontanafredda Alta Langa Contessa Rosa Brut Rosé 2019

Fontanafredda is one of the great names of Piedmont. King Vittorio Emanuele II bought the estate in Serralunga d'Alba in 1858 for Rosa Vercellana, later made Contessa di Mirafiore. The house released its first sparkling wine in her honour in 1959, and this line still carries her name. Pinot Nero (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) spend years on the lees after the traditional bottle fermentation. For the dosage the cellar reaches for a rarity that the label spells out: a few drops of Barolo from the 1967 vintage. It lends the wine its savoury depth. The colour recalls onion skin, the nose brings orange blossom, pomegranate and a touch of ginger. The palate shows a fine mousse, citrus zest and salty spice.
